Salt of the earth

Today I think I started to understand better what it means when the Savior teaches us in 3 Nephi 12:13 (and Matthew 5:13), "to be the salt of the earth."  Salt is an important preservative and needs to be spread throughout to save and influence that which it's around.  In water it's what helps to keep us afloat.  We must be willing and ready to stand up and make a difference where we are.  If we are unwilling to be the influence that's needed we are "good for nothing."  It's important that we be ready as examples and witnesses of Him.  The earth needs us!  The Lord needs us....as salt and as a light that we may glorify Him.  We need Him and the world needs Him.
